Significance of the Shofar
The shofar is constructed from a ram's horn. It is considered an instrument for sacred use, and the manner of playing it is closely prescribed in Jewish tradition. The blowing of the shofar is traditionally reserved for announcing the start and end of high holy days. But the shofar has another use in Jewish ritual, one for which it has never been blow before: announcing the arrival of the Messiah.
